I have been publishing books in eBook format for a while now. As soon as I heard about the Amazon Kindle, I was all over it. I started publishing my fiction in that format. They sold pretty well. Since then, the Kindles have come down in price, become more popular and more advanced and the acceptance of eBooks has grown. I tried to get into eBooks back in the 90s and early Oughts, but the readers just were not like they are now and they never took off.
Now comes the news that Borders Books is going under and has declared Chapter 11 . That is too bad as the loss of any store that sells my books is a bad thing. However, of all of the big chain stores, Borders seemed the least ready to deal with the onslaught of eBooks and eReaders.
HERE is a great story by CBS about the growing popularity of eReaders and eBooks. Amazon.com now sells more electronic books than it does paper ones. The Barnes & Noble Nook has now become very popular with its color screen and touch screen. So, I now have books available there, too. Again, they have sold well.
I may soon be publishing my first non-fiction book for eReaders. I love bookstores. I love going into a small independent bookstore and see the stacks and stacks of books. However, things change.
