An interesting article HERE at The Digital Reader about some rather disturbing trend among indie writers. People are paying companies to write favorable reviews for their books.
Ugh, this just undercuts all of us trying to produce quality books on our own. It completely undermines us. Yeah, we are indie writers and want to be taken seriously and that we are as good as the big publishing houses – but we’re now willing to get a bunch of fake reviews from people who have not read our books and make it seem like our books are potentially better than they are.
It’s like doping in sports!
Anyway, I know that there are plenty of negative reviews for my books on Amazon.com. If they are well-thought-out reviews, I am all for them. If the opinion is arrived to honestly, having read the book and made a decision, then it’s fine. I also think that the positive reviews are the same way.
Anyway, read the article. It bugged me.
