Coming this Halloween, my latest novel is one that, I think, will keep you on the edge of your seat and guessing right until the end. It is a novel that preys upon one of my greatest fears and one that I think will resonate with a lot of you out there.
The Synopsis of NEWCOMERS
For sixteen-year-old Rose, the move to Bloomfield in the mountains of Colorado is not the good thing her parents have been trying to convince her it is. No, she wants to stay in Chicago with her friends and at her school. Her dad says the new job here with the tech firm is more money, the town is safer, and there's a great chance of success.
From the moment they arrive and move into their new house, Rose thinks something about the town is off. Why does her old neighbor, who lives across the street, look at her so weirdly? Everyone seems almost too friendly, and why does the entire town go to the one church in existence, but not invite Rose's family? Plus, the teens, and people around there, just act strange, seem to hold very racists attitudes. Oh, and then there's the mysterious locked room in the library.
The more she learns, the harder she digs, the more worried Rose gets. Her parents tell her she's just being a pain. That things are fine, but she really wants in that room. She wants to know more about the history of this town, but she can't shake the feeling she's being watched.
What she learns is more terrifying than anything you might imagine. NEWCOMERS is a thriller of paranoia, menace, discovery and terror that will keep you turning the pages late into the night until the shattering conclusion.
Where Did the Idea for NEWCOMERS Come From?
Well, the story idea came to me from an NPR radio story. I don't want to give too much of it away, as that would ruin the novel, but the story captivated me and told me about a little part of U.S. history I did not know. As soon as the story was done, I thought, "interesting, but what if...?" That's how the best ideas for novels come into existence.
I had the general idea, but there was still something missing from it all. I had the puzzle all together, except for one very glaring piece. Then, a weird development in a real life true crime story came into my purview and it made me say - that's it! That's what I needed.
I know this is all a bit cryptic, but this is a story that relies on slow revelations and the final reveal of what is actually going on is meant to be a shock to the system. So far, Beta readers have said that it does accomplish that, so I don't want to ruin anything.
When Does NEWCOMERS Come Out?
NEWCOMERS is my second novel coming out from Unveiling Nightmares and it is set to be published right on Halloween. It will be available in print and for Kindle and as soon as there is a Kindle pre-order link available, I will definitely be promoting that.
I can't wait for you to experience NEWCOMERS. It is more thriller, I guess, than straight horror, but the ending will keep you on the edge of your seat and I guarantee it will send chills down your spine.
